Lathrop is a city located in San Joaquin County, California, United States. At the 2010 census Lathrop’s population was 18,023. The city is located in Northern California at the intersection of Interstate 5 and SR 120. Lathrop is centered between the Stockton and Tracy submarkets – both within a 20 miles radius. The San Joaquin River Delta runs through the Lathrop community.

Lathrop, CA History
The city of Lathrop was founded on August 1, 1887. Since it was located by the railroad, it initially came to be known as Wilsons Station. Leland Stanford is credited as the founder of this city. The city was later named after his brother-in-law, Charles Lathrop.
School Districts
Most of Lathrop is part of the Manteca Unified School District. The recently constructed in 2013, River Islands Technology Academy, is a part of the Tracy High School District and Banta Elementary district. Lathrop has 3 schools that teach preschool to grade 8. These include Lathrop Elementary, Mossdale, and Joseph Widmer Jr., all of which belong to MUSD (Manteca Unified School District). Lathrop High School is the first secondary school in Lathrop that opened in 2008. River Islands High School is next planned high school to open.
City of Lathrop Parks
Lathrop is a great place to live, work and play. A temperate year round climate lets residents enjoy the outdoors and casual California lifestyle. Recreational opportunities abound. In Lathrop one is never far from an open greenspace for active play or just relaxing. Shopping & Dining
Lathrop offers multiple locations for shopping and dining, east of Louise Rd and Lathrop Rd. Target is located at the Golden Valley Parkway shopping center, and Ghirardelli has a chocolate outlet and ice cream shop on Harlan Rd. Denise’s Farmer’s Market ,on Manthey Rd in Lathrop, offers fresh locally grown produce and a small café restaurant.
There’s also shopping and dining only a few minutes away in the nearby cities of Manteca or Tracy CA. Stadium Center is located at the corner of NWC Hwy. 120 & Airport Way, in Manteca. It is an open shopping mall. It covers an area of 420,000 sq. ft. and has about 35 stores. The Promenade Shops at Orchard Valley is 721,000 square feet of retail, restaurant, and entertainment opportunities. Orchard Valley shares its Highway 120 location with other prominent facilities such as Costco, Lowe’s, and Big League Dreams, a sports complex consisting of 6 replicas of classic major league ball parks that draws 300,000 annually.
Shopping and dining is also available at the Tracy Outlets, Hwy 205 and MacArthur Drive, and the West Valley Mall, Hwy 205 to Naglee Rd.

Dell’Osso Family Farms was founded in Lathrop in the 1920’s by three brothers from Italy who started farming asparagus. Rudy Dell’Osso, the son of one the original brothers, took over the farm in the 1950’s and diversified into growing tomatoes, beans and alfalfa. In the mid 1970’s, Ron Dell’Osso, Rudy’s son, joined the business and added pumpkins, melons and sweet corn to the crop rotation. Dell’Osso Family Farms is only open during their special events, including their annual Pumpkin Maze (October), Holidays on the Farm (December-January), and Mud Run on the Farm (May).
Lathrop has a beautiful harbor and dock area called the Mossdale Marina, perfect for fishing and recreational water sports. In addition, Mossdale Quarry Lakes hosts professional wakeboarding competitions yearly.
Lathrop Branch Library
The Lathrop Branch Library offers computer workstations for Internet and word processing use, a small ready reference collection, and a circulating collection of popular materials in English and Spanish. Items include books, magazines, audiobooks, DVDs, music CDs, and videos. Newspapers are available for reading in the branch. Customers are able to receive hold requests, check out and return items, and to return materials from other library locations at this branch.
